MADE IN COWICHAN: MUSEUMS
The Cowichan is rich in
history and culture. For a ‘window ’ into our past, be sure to
visit one of the eight museums in the region. Through photos and
artifacts you ’ll get the true picture of pioneering life in the
Cowichan. Learn about the logging industry at the BC Forest
Discovery Centre. Visit the Cowichan Valley Museum and find out
what hospital life was like at the turn of the century in
Duncan. Step into a charming one-room school in Crofton. Check
out a mining tunnel, a general store and post office at Lake
Cowichan ’s Kaatza Museum. The museum itself is housed in a
restored Esquimalt and Nanaimo Railway station constructed in
1912.At the Cowichan Bay Maritime Museum – right on the water
-see boat restoration from simple plywood dinghies to elegant
cedar lapstreak boats.
