between the two major urban centres of Vancouver Island.
Victoria, the capital of British Columbia, lies to the south and the
City of Nanaimo to the north.
The Cowichan is made up of a number of small communities, each with

The name "Cowichan" derived from the Coast Salish
word Khowutzun, literally translates into "The Warm Land", due to
its relatively warm year round climactic conditions.

traditional economic drivers for the region. Diversification is seen
in value added activities, specialty products and wineries.

This area has a rich artistic community, and a
vibrant First Nations community.
